Recognizing National Indigenous Peoples Day

The City of Toronto, where the CAPR office is located and where our staff live and work and play, is on the traditional territory of many indigenous nations, including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples—nations who called this land home long before the arrival of settlers and who call it home still.

Toronto is now home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples. Toronto is covered by Treaty 13 signed with the Mississaugas of the Credit, and the Williams Treaties signed with multiple Mississaugas and Chippewa bands.

Today—and every day—we acknowledge this and offer our appreciation of living and working on this beautiful land. By offering this land acknowledgement, we remind ourselves that we live in a a land of great diversity and that we are all accountable for our relationships with all who live here.
