Meet Michael Kay

In September 2019, Michael Kay stepped in as the new Executive Director and Registrar of the Newfoundland and Labrador College of Physiotherapists. Michael, a physiotherapist, graduated from the University of Toronto and completed graduate studies at Western University. He has worked his entire career in Newfoundland and Labrador, except for a 6-week stint in Iqaluit, where he worked with the authors of the Lower Extremity Functional Scale (LEFS) to translate it into Inuktitut.

Michael has been actively involved with the Canadian Physiotherapy Association for many years and he is a past chair of the Newfoundland and Labrador Physiotherapy Association. He has also been regularly involved in regulatory work. “I think I may have attended every college meeting,” he tells us. Despite this, he was still surprised at the breadth and depth of issues relating to health regulation, professional standards and national/international considerations. “Jo Crossan did a wonderful job orienting me to the position,” he states, and he appreciates the support from CAPR.

In his spare time, Michael loves to kayak, hike and ‘fat bike’ around the east coast. At the time of writing however, he was confined to the house due to a snow-storm state of emergency. CAPR extends a warm welcome to Michael and wishes him the best of luck digging out!
