Is the PCE Valid? – Step 4: Scoring

  1. CAPR follows best practices for the scoring of the exams.
  2. CAPR follows best practices in setting passmarks.
  3. All examiners receive training prior to each clinical exam to ensure that scoring exam performance is conducted in the same way across the country.
  4. The written exam is administered by computer to decrease the risk of scoring errors.
  5. Regular reviews are conducted to introduce new scoring methods as new best practices emerge.
  6. Exam question performance is measured statistically after every exam.  Any exam questions that do not perform as expected are removed from the scoring of an exam
