Scoring

How the PCE is Scored

Both parts of the Physiotherapy Competency Examination (PCE) are criterion-referenced and are scored independently. This means you must fulfill a predetermined overall score to pass the exams. The PCE is not bell curved.

The predetermined score may vary from year to year and from exam to exam depending on the difficulty and content of each exam, or revisions to the benchmark for the exam.

The pass/fail cut score points are set by the Board of Examiners. The Board of Examiners is comprised of physiotherapists who have expertise in clinical education and all aspects of examination procedures and evaluation.

The Board of Examiners also reviews any actions or behaviours that are flagged by the PCE examiners and determines if these actions or behaviours are unsafe or unprofessional.

For more information on scoring, search the PCE Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ).
