Step 1 - Educational Credentials and Qualification Assessment
If you are internationally educated, the Educational Credential and Qualification Assessment is the first step in your process of obtaining a Registration License from a provincial regulatory body. A successful assessment is required before you can become eligible to take the Physiotherapy Competency Examination (PCE). L'ordre professionnel de la physiothérapie du Québec conducts its credentialling assessments for applicants seeking to work in Québec. For more information on the credentialling process in Québec, visit www.oppq.qc.ca.
Graduates of Canadian physiotherapy programs do not need to complete an Educational Credential and Qualification Assessment to take the PCE.
The Educational Credential and Qualification Assessment determines if an applicant has a similar education to a Canadian educated physiotherapist. This is decided by comparing your credentials and qualifications against several criteria including:
Your general education allows you to continue with a university level education
You have graduated as a physiotherapist from an accredited university level institution
Your total university education is at least eight semesters in length, of which six semesters must be in a physiotherapy program
You are eligible to practice as a physiotherapist in your country of education
You are fluent in either English or French
You demonstrate knowledge of physiotherapy practice in the Canadian health care context.
